The stump was about 3 inches underground (so we never even knew it was there). It was also the hardest wood we've ever encountered. We think it may have been a cedar stump, since the wood had a bright red color to it. We also broke two shovels during the over two hour ordeal of digging the stump out of th ground. One of the shovels snapped its wood handle but, on the other, we actually bent the metal. It was quite a sight to behold.
(Note to all: don't buy your shovels at Lowe's.)
The stump was bigger than the puppies.
But that didn't stop Chase from trying to turn it into dinner...
