Starting Solids

Or, as my secretary named it, "Wearing Solids."

The time finally arrived to start the little guy on solid foods.  You can start them any time between 4 to 6 months but we opted for the 6 month mark after waaaaaaaaay too much research and what worked best with our schedules (basketball season is over--can I get an hallelujah?!?).

Anyway, the first step was collecting all the correct materials.  I generally select JT's feeding paraphernalia based on three important characteristics: (1) fun colors; (2) fun shapes; and (3) cartoon characters.

I also seem to have inadvertently developed a teal theme.

We thought we would start by introducing the sippy cup.  He kind-of-sorta gets the point.

Next we moved on to mashed sweet potatoes (its a white sweet potato, in case you were wondering).

He is less than certain about this development.

We soon learned that far more of JT's dinner ends up everywhere except in his mouth.

The state of cleanliness did not approve on day two.  Although we did learn to feed JT in the buff.

Its torture, people.  Torture.

And for the record, this is day five or six.

Halfway There

I can't believe it.  My baby is half way to having his first birthday.  Where did all the time go?

At six months old, JT is measuring in at:
15 lbs
 28.5 inches tall

Lets do some comparisons of the last several months.

One Month          2 Months          4 Months         6 Months
10 lbs                  11  lbs              13 lbs               15 lbs
22.5 inches          24 inches          27.5 inches       28.5 inches

Craziness.

And now on to the fun part...pictures.

Toes, you are my arch nemesis and I will pursue you to the ends of the earth.

Playing with Grover.

Just cuteness.

Flashing his gang sign. Which is apparently 4.

Watch out, ladies!

Well...this picture could use some photo-editing. Oops.

His face hasn't changed too much in the last few months but for the sake of consistency:

It is amazing how much has changed in such a short time.  And only more changes to come!

More from the children's ward

No. John did not decide to increase my cardio training with another trip to the hospital.  But I did find some more pictures from our visit on my camera.  So here goes...

I never get tired of those beautiful blue eyes.

Guard Kitties

One of the funniest things we encountered in San Diego were my sister's cats.  They seemed to feel that it was their duty to guard JT at all times.

As a black cat, Dorrie is pretty intimidating, isn't she?  Perfect security cat.

And that white blur in the background?  That's Clarke showing off his toy-chasing skills.

I'm not sure what happened here, but its a cool looking exposure, isn't it?

Anyway, here are both cats in on the baby-guarding action.

Dorrie is capable from guarding from all angles.

More photo-dumps to come.
